12K

Map

The 12K (7.45 miles) is an out and back run staged along the North Fork of the American River Canyon. The course is 99% trails. The course begins on the levee about ¼ mile behind Cavitt Junior High School. Runners will finish back at the school at the main finish line for the Double Marathon and 100K events. Runners will descend north on the trail towards Granite Bay State Park. Runners will remain on the trail that will take them through Granite Bay Beach along the lakefront. Runners continue North to the turnaround at Twin Rocks. From Twin Rocks, the 12K course will run the same route in reverse back to the school.

The cutoff for the 12K is: 2 hours 30 minutes

Trail Marathon (26.2 miles)

The trail marathon (26.2 miles) is a point to point run staged along the North Fork of the American River Canyon. The course is 99% trails. Runners will leave from the south side of the school where the trail joins the American River Trail. Runners continue north on the trail towards Auburn, CA. Runners will pass through Granite Bay State Park, Twin Rocks, Horseshoe Bar, Rattlesnake Bar, Power Plant, Avery’s Pond, up Cardiac, and along the flume trail crossing Maidu Rd., before arriving at the Auburn Dam Overlook Aid Station. (The flume trail bypasses the last few miles of the American River 50 course.) Exiting the Overlook Aid Station, runners descend on the Western States Trail to the scenic finish at No Hands Bridge.

*There will be a shuttle from the finish of the marathon back to the start. There may be a short wait time in between the shuttles. Thanks for your patience.

Double Marathon (52.4 miles)

The double marathon (52.4 miles) is an out and back run staged along the North Fork of the American River Canyon. The course is 99% trails. The course begins and ends at Cavitt Junior High School. Runners will leave from the south side of the school where the trail joins the American River Trail. Runners continue north on the trail towards Auburn, CA. Runners will pass through Granite Bay State Park, Twin Rocks, Horseshoe Bar, Rattlesnake Bar, Power Plant, Avery’s Pond, up Cardiac, and along the flume trail crossing Maidu Rd., before arriving at the Auburn Dam Overlook Aid Station. (The flume trail bypasses the last few miles of the American River 50 course.) Exiting the Overlook Aid Station, runners descend on the Western States Trail to the scenic turnaround at No Hands Bridge. Runners will follow the same route in reverse direction back to Cavitt Junior High School.

There are three cutoffs for the Double Marathon:
Overlook (outbound): 6 hours - 12:30 P.M.
Overlook (return): 8 hours 30 minutes - 3:00 P.M.
Rattlesnake (return): 11 hours 15 minutes - 5:45 P.M.
Finish: 14 hours
